Saturday 18 April
At 07h00 it was a perfect day with clear skies and no
wind but a tad cool at 3C. We cast off at 10h00
and five hours later after having traveled through mainly light industrial landscape (the area was a big brick-making region at one time)
tied up at a
small, privately owned commercial quay as we had missed the 15h00 closing time
for the last bridge which is just before the Jachthaven Brecht.
A bit tatty with an old barge in front of us which was in the process of being demolished by a young couple who had bought is as scrap. Apparently it had been the home of an old man who lived there for many years but who could not afford to maintain it. It had not been out of the water for some twenty years (as was evident from the extensive rust around the waterline) but, after a fire on board, he threw in the towel and sold out. Sad really.
Had the Njord crew around for a braai.
