A Note on the Free Mobile 100GB data for €19.99 per month deal

BEWARE!!

When we entered into this contract we decided to use my Samsung S4 phone as the host for the sim card – this phone is a 3g enabled device and takes a micro sim card. We subsequently learned (thanks Ian and Sian) that the 100GB data per month is in respect of 4G enabled devices – on the same contract 3G enabled devices only get 3GB free data and we have already used 3.5GB’s! Lynn’s Samsung Note 5 is a 4G device but it takes a nano-sized sim card doesn’t it? So when we get to Nancy we have to find the Free shop and have the number/contract transferred to another sim card for use in Lynn’s phone. And the Free shop is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. And we were intending to get to Nancy on a Saturday, weren’t we…

But in any event we stayed in Nancy until Monday when Lynn rode to the Free shop and, with no difficulty at all, had the contract transferred to a nano card so we are back in action.

Which explains why the Blog got to be a bit in arrears.

  1. I was aware of that, but good to highlight it. We've just ordered two Free SIMs for this and future seasons. What I'm not sure about is what happens when you are in a zone where only 3G is available, so your 4G phone has to connect at that rate. Should you have to download 3GB of data while in that zone, does that blow your account for the month?

    1. Not sure Ian - maybe something which needs to be clarified with Free. We did get up to nearly 4GB on our 3G phone and were not charged and even the Free guy in Nancy was unaware of the 3G restriction.
